Tuacahn’s Broadway in the Desert Series Kicks Off this Month
Friday, 06.05.2009, 08:52pm (GMT-6)

Tuacahn’s Broadway in the Desert offerings kick off this month with productions of AnnieFootloose. Annie runs June 8-October 16 and Footloose is here June 9-October 14. Tickets are $29.00 to $45.00 for each of the shows.

In Annie, the popular comic strip heroine takes center stage in one of the world's best-loved musicals. Annie is a spunky Depression-era orphan determined to find the parents who abandoned her years ago on the doorstep of a New York City orphanage run by the cruel, embittered Miss Hannigan. In adventure after fun-filled adventure, Annie foils Miss Hannigan's evil machinations, befriends President Franklin Delano Roosevelt and finds a new family and home in billionaire Oliver Warbucks, his personal secretary Grace Farrell, and a lovable mutt named Sandy.

Winner of nine 1977 Tony Awards—including Best Musical—this celebrated family show comes to Tuacahn at last! Featuring a bright tuneful score which has long since become a part of our nation's cultural heritage, an eclectic mix of colorful characters, and a classic villainess, it's no wonder this heartwarming show has become a contemporary classic.

Meanwhile, Footloose is one of the most explosive movie musicals in recent memory, and it came to us long before High School Musical took the world by storm. It’s been modified for the stage with exhilarating results.

When Ren and his mother move from Chicago to a small farming town, Ren is prepared for the inevitable adjustment period at his new high school. What he isn't prepared for are the rigorous local edicts, including a ban on dancing instituted by a local preacher determined to exercise control over the town's youth. When the reverend's rebellious daughter sets her sights on Ren, her roughneck boyfriend tries to sabotage Ren's reputation, with many of the locals eager to believe the worst about the new kid. The heartfelt story that emerges is of a father longing for the son he lost and of a young man aching for the father who walked out on him.

Set to the rockin' rhythm of its Oscar and Tony-nominated Top-40 score (the soundtrack album reached number one on the Billboard charts and has sold over 15 million copies), and augmented with dynamic new songs for the stage musical, Footloose celebrates the wisdom of listening to young people, guiding them with a warm heart and an open mind.
