Former Southern Utah Youth Performer Returns to Offer Summer Workshop
Friday, 06.05.2009, 07:55pm (GMT-6)

Musical theater performer and certified Speech Level Singing instructor Chelsea Wilson has returned to southern Utah to offer a summer vocal workshop for youth and adults. Wilson, a judge for this year’s Kony Country Showdown, is a 2008 Sterling Scholar and graduate of Dixie High School and is currently studying in one of the top musical theater programs in the country at the University of Michigan. A performing artist since early childhood, Wilson moved with her family to southern Utah in 2004, and is a veteran of area theater programs including St. George Musical Theater, Dixie High School and Zion Canyon Theatre.

The Summer Vocal Workshop 2009 is directed by Wilson and sponsored by Kony Country 99.9, the Piano Gallery of St. George and St. George Musical Theater. This nine-week program offers several private vocal lesson options as well as group workshops in performance technique and auditioning and a final showcase at Piano Gallery.

“I had my first lesson when I was 12 years old,” Wilson said. “My teacher pushed me and had faith in my dreams and abilities, and that launched it all. Since then I’ve been encouraged and inspired by other directors and voice teachers, all helping me to pursue my dreams.” Wilson is excited at the opportunity to offer that support to others.

In addition to Wilson’s summer vocal program, area residents can also take advantage of a rare opportunity to join a master class session offered here in St. George by Jeffrey Skouson of Skouson Studios, Las Vegas. One of the nation’s leading vocal instructors, Skouson has educated, prepared and inspired a wide-range of clientele, including many chart-topping pop acts, country, rock, and Broadway stars. He will be available for two-hour master class on July 11th, giving participants a chance to receive top instruction at a rate unavailable in any other setting.

“I’ve been involved with community and educational theater here for the past several years,” Wilson said, “I’m very excited to be giving back to the arts in southern Utah.”

Anyone interested in improving their vocal abilities can greatly benefit from this skilled, high-energy summer workshop. Private lessons begin the first week of June, and flexible scheduling is available during the nine-week period. Registration is now open but limited to the first 30 participants. For more information on the workshop or Speech Level Singing, go to www.myvocalworkshop.com or call 435-632-6470.
