SINGER/SONGWRITER AMY SPEACE TO PLAY AT GROOVACIOUS Monday, 01.04.2010, 11:08am (GMT-6)
Singer/songwriter Amy Speace is returning to
Cedar City on Thursday, Jan. 14 to play an intimate show at Groovacious.
Tickets are $8 at the door, and the show starts at 8:00 p.m.
Signed to the label owned by Judy Collins, Speace isn't quite folk, country, roots or pop.
Rather, on her new album entitled The Killer in Me, she is a fine blend of all
four styles, and she showcases this blend on the breezy, summery "Step Out
of the Shade" and the adult contemporary folk-pop of "Water
Landing," which has Speace coming up roses with her sweet but pure
delivery. She also shows a bit more moxie – in the vein of Sheryl Crow or Lucinda Williams – during the ragged, rockier and bluesy
"The Heartless Kind." A gentler track along similar lines is the
Southern-tinged soul oozing out of the heartfelt "Shed This Skin."
In terms of genres, she excels across the board,
even offering a Celtic-tinged "Two,” a gorgeous song resembling something
that Kate Rusby or Alison Krauss might conjure up. She outdoes herself, though, with
perhaps her album's crowning achievement, a waltz-like ditty entitled
"Make Me Lonely Again," which resembles Cowboy Junkies.
Speace has talent, and it will be on display at
Groovacious one night only. Groovacious is at 173 N. 100 W. in Cedar City. Call
