Locals Showcase at the Tanner Amphitheater Monday, 07.06.2009, 06:10am (GMT-6)
The O.C. Tanner
Amphitheater in Springdale is hosting a showcase of local bands on July 25th
at 8:00 p.m. Featured musicians include
Erik the Red, Mason’s Jar of Jam, Matt Abernathy, Josh Warburton and Jerone
Wedig. Tickets are $8.00 prior to the event and $10 at the door. The evening of
music is sponsored by The Independent.
Mason’s Jar of Jam hails
from Cedar City, and the five band members create a sound reminiscent of John
Mayer and Dave Matthews. Founded in 2006, the band plays all original songs
with an irresistible groove.
Matt Abernathy will be
the evening’s featured first performer. According to Yvonne Wall of the
Southern Utah Songwriters Association, “He soulfully renders riveting and
heartfelt songs, while his fingers appear to effortlessly play the guitar.”
Abernathy hasn’t performed much in recent years, but now that he’s completed
some recordings, he’s returning to the stage.
Josh Warburton – most
recently of Crippled Stripper fame – began writing his own songs at the age of
15. His songwriting style is simplistic yet emotional, with lyrics people can
relate to and a passion many find inspiring. Josh has performed throughout the
West and has opened for such acts as SheDaisy, Little River Band and John Lee
Hooker, Jr. He is also a regular performer at the top-rated Red Mountain Spa in
Ivins.
Jerone Wedig is known
around town as the “blues barber.” The singer and guitarist cuts hair by day
and sings the blues by night. Wedig operates a recording studio from the back
of his barber shop in downtown St. George. The Jerone Wedig trio, a jazzy blues
group, has been a local favorite for five years running now.
