Santa Clara’s Ghost Tours Returns with Spirits of the Wild West
Friday, 09.25.2009, 05:47am (GMT-6)

Santa Clara is bringing back its acclaimed Ghost Tours this year, running nightly October 16,17,19,23,24,26,29 and 30. Tours start at 7:30 p.m. outside the new Santa Clara Town Hall with a new tour starting every 15 minutes. The last tour leaves at 9:00. Prices are $10 for adults, $8 for children 12+ and seniors. Children 11 and under are $6. Groups of 10 or more are $5 per person.

Ghost Tours was immediately a huge hit when the event began six years ago thanks to high-quality productions and the unique nature of the stories. Ghost Tours embraces the tradition of great storytelling mixed with fun history that is suitable for the whole family. Every year features new ghostoric stories and locations.

This year’s theme is the “Spirits of Buffalo Bill’s Wild West.” All of the “spirits” have some connection to the great showman.  Consider, for example, at Way Cool, Dirt Cheap you will see Anton Zamloch, a magician whose voodoo trick has real-life consequences. A hay barn will feature a young gypsy girl that once danced in the Wild West Show. She was separated from her family during an escape from an angry mob. Grandma Tobler’s Kitchen features Smokin’ John, a story of explosive proportions portrayed by the early western star Gabbey Hayes.

Attendees will board a wagon taking them to the Jacob Hamblin Home. Along the way, some of the historic homes of the early settlers of Santa Clara will be featured.

On the last leg of the tour, ghostly guides take tour-goers past the tormented souls of Buffalo Bill Cody, the untold spiritual side of Sitting Bull and the presentation of “The Ghost Dance” by the Kidz on Stage Dancers.

The event is geared toward older children and adults who prefer a well-told ghostly story to the blood and shock of traditional Halloween offerings. Stairs and the wagon ride along the route make strollers and wheelchairs impractical. Opportunities to sit and rest along the tour are limited. Please bring a flashlight.

Net proceeds from this event will be contributed to the dance and theater programs of Kidz on Stage. Bring along some extra money to purchase some tasty treats.

Reservations are highly recommended. For more information or reservations call 435 313-1497.
